2011 Winners of the Siemens Award for Student Journalism

RMIT journalism students Jane Vashti Ryan and Harrison Tippet take out this year's award, with La Trobe University student Matt Smith in second place.

RMIT students Jane Vashti Ryan and Harrison Tippet are the winners of the 2011 Siemens Award for Student Journalism for their report The Invisible Line broadcast on Channel 31.

The report focused on the social divide and inequity created by the arbitrary and invisible boundary that separates inner and outer regional students applying for the Independent Youth Allowance.

And congratulations to La Trobe University student and current upstart co-editor, Matt Smith, who was the runner-up in this year’s award for his piece on internet piracy which aired on ABC’s Future Tense.
