Michael Maguire has been announced as the Broncos new coach this morning, signing a three-year contract with the NRL club.
He replaces former coach Kevin Walters who was sacked following a 12th placed finish this season, ending his four-year tenure with the club. Maguire joins the club with plenty of success behind him having coached in the NRL, Super League, State of Origin and for the All Blacks in Rugby Union.
The Broncos Chief Executive Officer Dave Donaghy said he was excited to have Maguire on board with the club.
“Michael brings a wealth of experience across more than two decades of coaching and he has tasted success at club, state and international level,” he said.
“We believe he is the right man to fill the role of Head Coach at the Broncos to take our current playing group forward.”
Maguire has over 300 games of professional coaching experience and says he looks forward to taking the Broncos back up to the top, with the club searching for their first premiership since 2006.
“We want the members to turn up and be proud of the way we play, proud of their team,” he said.
“The Broncos are one of rugby league’s great clubs and it will be an honour to step into the role of Head Coach.”
The Broncos undertook a long process to land on Maguire as coach, keen to move past a disappointing 2024 season to rise back to the top of the NRL.
“The Broncos organisation has a high expectation on everything it does,” Maguire said. “Playing my part in the great vision of what the Broncos stand for is the exciting part for me.”
