SBS job for upstart founding editor

A few weeks ago he was being ruthlessly exploited in his role as the very first editor of upstart. Now, it gives us great pleasure to confirm that Erdem Koc has just landed a job as as news journalist with SBS Radio in Melbourne.

Erdem, who just completed a five-year Law/Media degree at La Trobe University, began broadcasting on SBS’s Turkish youth program six years ago, and more recently he’s been employed as a casual (though often well-dressed)  news and current affairs reporter. Earlier this year, he covered the Victorian bushfires.

Erdem was up against some tough competition for the new SBS job – more than 100 contenders were shortlisted for just three news positions (two in Sydney and one in Melbourne). He starts in his new role on 27 December, and promises us he’ll continue to contribute to upstart.

We wish him well.
