MWF 2014 Official Selection: Manigances

Manigances is a suspense/thriller web series created by Canadian trio, Ghislain O’Prêtre, Isabel Dréan and Simon Côté.

Ahead of Melbourne WebFest 2014 we are profiling all the series in the Official Selection as well as the “Second Look” series.

Famous novelist, Michel Galand, invites his five friends for dinner. Everything was going well: good wine, small presents for everyone, a good meal… his suicide as dessert. But the events do not turn out as the writer had planned.

The series was inspired by Agatha Christie’s old murder mysteries with just a little modern twist. The series was so successful that they are about to launch their second season DVDs and are having discussions about whether or not it shall be coming to American television.

Filming locations:

Montreal, Canada

Why should people watch your series?
Because it’s really great! Hahaha!

What do you want people to take away from your series?
That web series can be really good production and not see as an undermining medium.

How do you finance your series?
We received money with the Independent Production Funds in Canada.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome in production?
Only 12 days to shoot 90 minutes.

How do you reach your audience?
We did a large media campaign and had lots of coverage in the medias (newspaper, tv shows etc…). But Facebook was key.

Trivia: please tell us a quirky and/or interesting fact about yourself or team that’s unrelated to your web series.
My partner Simon Côté and I lived in Laos for 10 years.

Why make a web series?
Because we figured that we could be the decision makers and didn’t have to wait for someone to give us a project.

Is there anything in particular you’d like us to add about you or your series?
This was our first project and we wanted to take it all the way, so we came up with a concept that was multi-format. (Web series, miniseries, TV movies and could be turned into a TV series).
