Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell was found dead in a Detroit hotel.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement that a preliminary autopsy on the 52-year-old had determined the death as a suicide, but a full autopsy report had yet to be completed.
Cornell’s death has shocked his family and fans, for whom the singer had performed for at a concert hours earlier.
Soundgarden’s current tour began in late April and was set to run until May 27.

Cornell was a leader of the grunge movement with Soundgarden, but also had success with other projects like Audioslave, Temple Of the Dog, as well as solo albums.
Cornell is remembered for his powerful and skilful song writing even collaborating on multiple film soundtracks, including the James Bond theme song for 2006’s Casino Royal and The Keeper from the film Machine Gun Preacher.
Cornell, who grew up in Seattle, had wrestled with drugs, alcohol and depression for most of his life.
He is survived by his three children.
