The Carlton coach Michael Voss made the citizen’s arrest in Hawthorn this morning after a car crashed near a school crossing.
A 16-year-old driver crashed a reportedly stolen car at around 9am with a fellow teenage passenger, before Voss gave chase, running them down. Local cafe owner Jamie Laskie joined Voss in the on foot chase, with one offender getting away before Voss tackled the other and held him down until police arrived on the scene.
The offender was also reportedly yielding a large knife, with Voss and the cafe owner receiving praise for their bravery.
3AW journalist Jacqui Felgate posted on Instagram this morning, along with a message from a witness.
“Wanted to give Michael Voss a huge shout out this morning,” the witness said, via Felgate’s Instagram.
“While he was waiting for his coffee at our local cafe in Hawthorn, a stolen car flipped onto the footpath just outside the cafe. Two guys got out of the car and fled the scene,” they said.
“Without hesitation, Vossy ran after them both and performed a citizen’s arrest. Police have since arrived.”
One of the offenders has been taken into custody and will await charges, while the other is still on the run.
