The AFL has announced Andrew Dillon as its next CEO, almost a year following Gillon McLachlan’s decision to resign.
Dillon has been with the AFL since 2000 as a lawyer and has been McLachlan’s second-in-command since 2011.
Following the announcement, Dillon rejected claims that the AFL was “a boys club” and dismissed further claims that the league lacked diversity.
“you only have to look at the calibre of our executive team and the calibre of my football integrity and legal team to say there’s no boys club here,” he said.
“We’ve got a talented, diverse workforce and everyone’s opinions are listened to and acted on. The more diverse the talent, the better decisions.”
Dillon will officially become the AFL’s new CEO on October 2, 2023.
