A 76-year-old man has been shot while answering a knock at his front door last night in Melbourne’s inner south.

Emergency services were called to his Canterbury Road home in Middle Park at 7:50pm on Thursday.  The victim suffered a lower body gunshot wound and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A male offender fled the scene on foot and was last seen going towards Albert Park Lake.

Two women were also inside the house at the time of the shooting, both uninjured during the incident.

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad say the investigation is still ongoing and are urging anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage related to the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
