Four Israeli soldiers killed in Hezbollah drone attack

Areas of southern Haifa were hit by Hezbollah air strikes.

Israel’s Defence Force (IDF) has announced that four soldiers have been killed and an additional seven injured by a Hezbollah drone attack.

The strike was the deadliest incident in the conflict since September 23, where Israeli strikes on Lebanon resulted in the deaths of over 400 people.

Hezbollah targeted a Golani Brigade camp in Binyamina, a town in the nation’s north. The Golani Brigade are regarded as an elite infantry unit within the Israeli military.

In a statement released after the assault, Hezbollah said the missiles “exploded in the rooms where dozens of officers and soldiers of the Israeli army were present”. Following the attack, they threatened Israel with further violence if their offensive in Lebanon continued. Another base in the southern Haifa region was also targeted.

On Sunday, the Pentagon released a statement authorising the “deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) battery and associated crew of U.S. military personnel to Israel”.

This is the first deployment of a THAAD battery by the US since October of last year and the first Israel has received since 2019.
