La Trobe students look to the future on ABC Radio National

How did four La Trobe students turn their university assignments into ABC Radio National pieces? Find out here.

Tune in to ABC Radio National’s Future Tense on Thursday 9 December and Thursday 16 December to hear four La Trobe University students give their take on what the world could look like beyond 2010.

You might remember, back in May we told you about our unique partnership with the ABC whereby students in our Broadcast Journalism class were putting together pitches for Future Tense. Future Tense explores social, cultural, political and economic outcomes of the rapid changes taking place in the 21st century. The show’s focus on new ways of thinking and new technologies made for some pretty funky suggestions. Four of those bright ideas were selected by Antony Funnell, Future Tense presenter, to be produced for broadcast.

Now, after a lot of hard work, the segments are finally going to air and boy, are we excited.

‘StudentTense’, as it’s been dubbed, will kick off on Thursday 9 December at 9.30am with Chris McNamara’s piece on the future of Australia’s favourite beverage: beer. Ally Forward, Sarah Green and Lachlan Wills are up next on Thursday 16 December at 9.30am.

You can read more about ‘StudentTense’ and the students’ segments here.
