Matildas to face tough draw at Paris Olympics

Powerhouse nations United States and Germany will be amongst their competition.

The Matildas have been drawn to play the United States and Germany in the group stages of the Paris Olympics later this year.

The fourth team of the group will consist of either Morocco or Zambia, both who are locked in next month to compete in a two-leg African play-off.

The US is fourth on the FIFA Women’s World Rankings and has won four Olympic gold since 1996, when women’s football was first introduced to the games.

Germany ranks fifth and won Olympic gold in the 2016 Rio De Janeiro games.

The Matildas finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympic games three years ago, where they captivated the nation despite missing out on an Olympic medal.
