The woman at the centre of the death cap mushroom case has given a written statement to Victoria Police, describing her account of a meal that caused the death of three people.
According to the written statement, obtained by the ABC, Erin Patterson said she used a mixture of store-bought button mushrooms and dried mushrooms for the lunch, which were bought from an Asian grocer she didn’t remember the name of.
Last week, police were investigating a food dehydrator, previously owned by Patterson, that had been dumped at the local tip. In her statement, Patterson says that she lied to police about dumping her food dehydrator at the tip “a long time ago”, because she was worried she might lose custody of her children.
The meal took place on July 29 in Leongatha. One guest is still hospital in a stable, yet critical, condition.
Patterson claims she was also admitted to hospital after having the meal with stomach pains and symptoms, despite it not being reported.
Police have not said if they will re-interview Patterson.
