Ahead of Melbourne WebFest 2014 we are profiling all the series in the Official Selection as well as the “Second Look” series.
Sin Vida Propia is filmed in Valencia and tells the story about four young people who are about to turn 30. They are facing not only the economic crisis but a huge existential crisis. Nothing has turned out like they expected and their only motivation is to hang out at their local pub with a bunch of friends. They soon learn their entire town is struggling with the same problem.
Many of the crew decided to come together to produce the show when they were about to lose their jobs on a Spanish television station.
The first season of Sin Vida Propia has featured in festivals in Spain, Rome, the USA, and Canada and won Best Foreign Series at the Vancouver Web Fest and Best Translated Comedy at the LA Web Fest.

What inspired your series?
Our own experiences, we are also about to turn 30 and still don’t know what to do with our own lives.
Why should people watch your series?
Sin Vida Propia’s objective is to make people laugh at our characters and even ourselves. It’s the perfect show to watch if you want to have a great time discovering the lives of our four losers.
What do you want people to take away from your series?
Our fresh spirit, our parody of the Spanish existential crisis our youth is living right now and the need to have fun.
How do you finance your series?
Our new season has been financed by crowdfunding. More than 140 viewers, friends and family made their donations so we could go on shooting the show, with a total budget of 4.500€.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome in production?
When we were shooting our second season, we lost two of our main actors when the scripts were already written. That was hard! And of course, producing a seven episode show with a very low budget by a team of almost 30 people.
Why make a web series?
It’s one of the only ways to control the production and distribution of your show. The internet gives you the freedom of making a really independent product and be totally satisfied or unsatisfied with the result, but at least you have the guarantee that it’s not what others wanted but what you, as a creator, wanted to tell.
