Ahead of Melbourne WebFest 2014 we are profiling all the series in the Official Selection as well as the “Second Look” series.
Dorothy Wallace has come a long way from a childhood of Selected Mutism from age 3 to 14, it look a couple of years for her to learn animation and home recording and mixing before Meet The LadyBugs finally became a reality. It is now in the process of becoming a feature film.
A cross between South Park and School House Rock, the series follows The LadyBugs on their journey toward super stardom performing educational children’s music about grown up topics.
With songs that teach kids to stay away from pedophiles and not to commit suicide, The LadyBugs are in a constant battle with authorities who think their music is inappropriate for kids.

What inspired your series?
I was a singer/songwriter for almost 25 years when a friend suggested I try children’s music. I told her I could never do that because I’d write really paranoid songs. That’s when the ideas started coming and The LadyBugs were born.
Why should people watch your series?
They will laugh and learn something at the same time
What do you want people to take away from your series?
I want them to be conscious of the crazy stuff that’s happening to kids instead of remaining in an oblivious state.
How do you reach your audience?
Social media and radio promotion. I was luck enough to get on The Howard Stern Show when The LadyBugs were a finalist in the theme song contest.
Is it an ongoing project? If so, can you give us some clues about what comes next?
I’m working on Season 4 and a LadyBugs feature film.
Why make a web series?
I am happiest when I’m immersed in the creative process. This is the art I wish to express at this time in my life.
Is there anything in particular you’d like us to add about you or your series?
I am always looking for interesting stories from kids about their struggles. Maybe it will be the next episode.
