Nedd Brockmann completes his 1609km run supporting homelessness charity

The run spanned 12 and a half days raising over $2.6 million for the We Are Mobilise homelessness charity

After 12 days, Nedd Brockmann has completed his “Uncomfortable Challenge” to run 1,000 miles (1609km), raising over $2.6 million for charity.

As Brockmann finished, he hugged his mother who was waiting for him at the finish line alongside his father and immediately burst in to tears.

Over the 12 days, Brockmann has raised over $2.6 million and counting. All proceeds will be donated to We Are Mobilise, a homelessness prevention charity.

Brockmann felt connected to the cause as the ex-sparkie was on the verge of being homeless whilst living in Sydney.

He fell short of the world record of 10 days, running 1,426km in that time. The run consisted of an average 128km each day, a total of 3,760 laps of Sydney Olympic Park.

“I can’t wait for a shower,” Brockmann said as he laid on the track post-race.

During the run Brockmann endured multiple injuries including the failure of his tibialis anterior after day three. His feet also swelled up three sizes due to the heavy rainfall Sydney experienced in the beginning of the week. The injuries became so brutal the runner had to be wheelchaired back to the track each morning.

He also hadn’t slept for the last 24 hours of the race as he pushed to finish it out, raising over $770,000, the most in any day of the run.

“No sleep because the tendinitis everywhere punches me in the throat come rest time,” he said.

During the race Brockmann received support from multiple familiar faces including Olympian Jess Fox, comedian Hamish Blake, NSW Premier Chris Minns and even ran alongside UFC champ Israel Adesanya.

The impressive feat comes less than two years after his record-breaking run across Australia.

He ran over 4,000km from Perth to Sydney completing the task in 46 days. He raised over $1.8 million for We Are Mobilise who he ran for again in the last 12 days.

Brockmann’s encapsulating messages revolved around the human ability to see things through.

“No matter how much it hurts or how long it takes. Get it done,” he said on Instagram.

“CONQUER.”
