Fox advances to the semi-final in search for another gold

Jess Fox continued her brilliance after posting a second-best heat time only 0.61 seconds behind Czechia’s Gabriela Satkova.

Despite a slight error around gate seven, Fox’s momentum and strength supported her to get the result.

She will advance to the semi-final where she looks to defend her gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics, as well as claim her second of the games.

Gold-medal favourites in women’s rugby sevens leave medal-less

It was a golden dream turned nightmare for the Australian women rugby sevens side as they went down in both the semi-final and the bronze medal matches.

In the semi-final, Australia went down to Canada 21-12 even after a perfect start with the Aussies leading 12-0 at half time.

The Australians couldn’t get their hands on the ball in the second half, with a costly mistake by Teagan Levi handing the ball back to Canada.

Then in the bronze medal match against the USA, the Aussies had a great start leading by five points at half-time thanks to the Levi sisters, Teagan and Maddison, helping Australia achieve what looked like the bronze-medal play.

With USA’s chances of a bronze medal fading in the second half, Alex Sedrick ran at Teagan Levi with the ball and broke the tackle giving the team the lead at the final siren.

“We more than wanted to come home with a medal. To have this feeling we’re disappointed,” said Australian captain Charlotte Caslick.

“It sucks but we gave everything. We gave our hearts out and I think that’s the beauty of Sevens and sport, that’s why we play it.”

While Canada’s RJ Barrett led the scoring for the game with 24 points.

Canada is undefeated in the group stage of the tournament and the Australians sit with a 1-1 win-loss ratio.

The Australians still have a chance to get through the group stage when they face Greece who are yet to win against a Group A side.
