Police helicopter hit with laser pointer in Melbourne

Two men have been charged.

Two men have been charged over separate incidents on Sunday night after they allegedly pointed lasers at a Victoria Police helicopter.

Police first noticed the laser while flying over Tarneit at approximately 9:40pm.

A laser was allegedly pointed at the Air Wing several times as it flew over the suburb.

The Air Wing informed police on the ground of the incident and directed them to the address. Shortly after, they found a laser and arrested a 36-year-old man.

At approximately 1am, while flying over Werribee another laser was directed at the helicopter.

An 18-year-old man was arrested by ground police at Hoppers Crossing after officers in the helicopters again directed them to the address.

The alleged men have each been charged with offences including reckless conduct endangering life, endangering the safe operation of an aircraft, possessing a prohibited weapon and assault of a emergency worker.

Both men will appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court later today.
