The director of Project 2025 has stepped down from his post and any future role in a Trump government after sustained criticism from the former president.
Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts confirmed Paul Dans’ departure in a statement made to CNN.
This came after the Trump campaign distanced itself from Project 2025 and Trump himself criticised it heavily in his Michigan campaign rally this month.
“I mean, they’re seriously extreme, but I don’t know anything about it,” he said.
Project 2025’s “Mandate for Leadership” is a proposed blueprint for a second Trump presidency drafted by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank that the Trump campaign has repeatedly distanced itself from.
The plan would install Trump loyalists throughout the public service and implement hard right policies regarding abortion, tax cuts, and immigration.
Project 2025 involved 140 former Trump staffers, according to CNN analysis.
The project attracted attention when Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts made comments about an “American Revolution” when speaking to conservative outlet, Real America’s Voice.
“We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless ― if the left allows it to be,” he said.
As reported by the Washington Post, Project 2025 will end its policy operations but still plans to advocate for a conservative vision of American politics.
