The Queensland University of Technology creative writing prize is divided into two categories: an undergraduate award for QUT students only and a postgraduate prize for post-graduate students enrolled in any creative writing course degree in Australia.

A panel of judges will shortlist the entries and winners will be announced at the end of year QUT Writing Gala.

In addition to the $2,000 awarded to the winner of each section, Highly Commended certificates will be awarded to all shortlisted candidates, as well as the opportunity to have their work published online. The prize winner and shortlisted entries will be published in the annual Creative Writing and Literary Studies anthology, REX.
