Amber MacArthur is an author, digital strategist, podcast creator and Canadian television host.
In June last year, MacArthur released her first book ‘Power Friending: Demystifying Social Media to Grow Your Business’ and it quickly climbed to the Globe & Mail’s Bestseller Top 10 list.
And MacArthur isn’t just some fly-by, social media hotshot. As the Canadian Business magazine put it best, she was on the scene advising ‘dot-com boom’ companies well before ‘social media’ was even a business catchphrase.
Amber MacArthur joins us on this week’s episode to have a quick chat about how student journalists should use social media and the importance of having a personal brand.
Must-Follows
Each week, Sean asks our guests to add three names to our Social Situation ‘must follow list’. This will be updated weekly. MacArthur’s additions:
Shira Lazar – creator and host of ‘WhatsTrending’ an American social media show on CBS.
Scott Stratten – expert in social media and ‘authentic marketing’, author of ‘UnMarketing’.
Matthew Ingram – a senior writer at GigaOM, co-founder of the ‘mesh’ conference in Toronto, former journalist with Globe and Mail.
Next Week
Our guest for next week is Jess Hill, ABC producer for the AM, The World Today and PM programs. Jess will join us to talk about how she’s used social media as a journalist to report on the Arab Spring. Make sure you tune in next Monday.
Sean Power is a first-year Bachelor of Media Studies student at La Trobe University, and the founder of the Social Situation. You can follow him on Twitter: @powersoz
