Students from La Trobe University’s ‘Students for Palestine’ have organised a vote to make The Student Union officially pro-Palestine.
The meeting being held at La Trobe University comes after months of protests by ‘Students for Palestine’. They will demand the university cut all ties with Israel and companies associated with the war on Gaza.
The organisation is calling for The Student Union to support an immediate end to the war on Gaza, for La Trobe to cut alleged ties with some companies and Israel, and the dismissal of Vice Chancellor Theo Farrell.
According to the organisation some of the companies allegedly tied to La Trobe that are being accused of “enabling genocide” include Honeywell, Siemens and Tel Aviv University.
Students at universities across Australia including RMIT, University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne have held similar votes over the last few months, with the vote being held at RMIT having over 500 participants.
At least one percent of the students at La Trobe will need to sign the petition at the meeting today for it to pass.
