Entries for the Victorian Office for Disability’s ‘Report It Right’ competition are now open.

Entries for the Victorian Office for Disability’s ‘Report It Right’ competition are now open.

The competition targets tertiary students studying journalism and media and communications degrees across Victoria. ‘Report it Right’ aims to raise awareness about the human rights and social justice issues when writing about people with a disability and to encourage students to consider the sensitiveness of writing about disabled individuals.

To enter, students are required to write a hard news or feature article of up to 800 words about a real news issue relating to people with a disability. The winner will be the student who best follows the ‘Reporting it Right’ checklist that has been developed as part of the Disability Media Charter.

Up to $5000 worth of prizes are available, and the winner’s article will be published in their local Leader newspaper.

More information about the competition can be found here.

Applications close 13 September 2012.
